Her career included being a performer performer and designer who broke through obstacles in the field. She was the first Mexican American artist that was modern and traditional. She brought together both worlds and brought Tejano music into the mainstream. Her sudden passing which shattered her rising image. That's what happens to a lot of stars who die far too young. In order to prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten, many fans over the past years have been motivated to go further. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction within the Latino community which can be compared to the reactions in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena's music, an artist who was hugely success in Latino communities throughout North America touched people young and old. Selena may have been hailed by many as an Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
